Massive Upgrades

Journal Entry: Mon Jun 1, 2009, 11:48 PM
Bye-Bye Jersie
My parents somehow managed to finally sell their home in Woodbury. I'm not Catholic or superstitious and neither are they, but the old "bury a St. Joseph statue in your yard" custom seems to have done the trick. Their new house in Galena, MD has 2 acres of land and the farm across the street is likely to see the end of civilization before a Wal-mart gets built on it. My mom and dad aren't the only ones pushing south; this Friday is the opening reception for my first art show in Delmarva, specifically Ocean City, MD (94th & Bayside). I also finally decided to give up my old landscaping business that I've had since 2000. This year I began sub-contracting my lawn jobs to a kid who lived up the street from my parents, and he'll be able to assume full power as mexican-in-chief once I can secure a source of reliable income here in Center City.

I'm Gonna Double My Gallery!
I just finished my classification system for albums in my gallery in preparation for the impending blitzkreig of photos I'm about to upload. For example, while you were doing something far less interesting (and illegal), some friends from the Photo Society and I went up to Pennhurst, a mental hospital for children that's been abandoned since the 1980's. With over 300 interior shots alone, some are bound to end up here, and they ought to be easy to locate in the gallery.

The Last Summer Vacation Ever
Schooooooool's out. For. Ever. At least for the class of 2009. I on the other hand still have another year here at Uarts in Center City Philadelphia. I'd originally planned on taking classes over the summer, but they ended up being more expensive than I'd originally thought, and I since I plan on spending the time from the 4th of July through my 21st birthday drinking moonshine in North Carolina, I don't want to miss that kind of class.

Echoes, Silence, Patience, & Grace

Great album by the Foo Fighters. Also the subject of a kinestasis film I made recently as a tribute to the man whose body I stumbled upon during one of my long walks about a year ago. It's funny what an experience like that can do, especially considering I never met him before.

And what of your truly? I am now (and have been since August) the proud owner of my own condo in Center City Philadelphia. My parents' hopes of leaving the Garden State behind for Dixieland crashed with the global economy. But at least my art's been getting around.

Lights of Liberty

was included in the National Public Lands Day Exhibit at the Independence Visitor Center on September 26.

Life Finds a Way

is currently on exhibit at City Hall as part of the Green Exhibit and will be through January 23.

Upward Mobility

will be pulled from the radiology wing of Pennsylvania Hospital due to security issues making impromptu visitation next to impossible, and will be included in the Philadelphia Photographic Society Exhibit in City Hall in 2010, all 44 million glorious pixels.

Finally, my Christmas list: a Nikon D90. Bring on the Renaissance.

Been Jammin', Franklin?

I'm less than ten days from the end of my semester, and my second year of college at The University of Arts in Philadelphia. The busiest week, also likely with the lowest sleep-to-awake ratio. My liberal arts classes are over, and despite the insistence from my peers that I change my major to photography, I simply love doing design too much, and I'd say I design my pictures more than I take them in the traditional sense. My dad, on the other hand, takes pictures (of the Eagles Cheerleaders... CHECK "EM OUT!!!1!11!)

So the parentals are putting a fo' sale sign on their rancher in Woodbury and heading down south. I'm staying here, so I'll be a Pennsylvania resident with a New Jersey driver's license driving a car with Maryland license plates. I want to stay here, though since I've managed to do some serious networking. I do freelance photo restorations for a local art gallery/framing store, and some of my pictures are up for sale there. Additionally, my print Sunset on the Sassafras is currently being displayed at the Granary Marina Restaurant in Maryland where it was taken.

Also, being a designer means I do more than just take/make the fancy photo-posters here. For awhile I've had some ideas in my head, likely inspired from the work I do in class, or what I see while staring out the window during class. Then, one day, I put three and three together ^shuttup I go to art school and realized I could just designerate them into a rectangular layout of laughable absurdity. CHECK "EM OUT!!!1!11!

Frames 2.0

Mon Mar 10, 2008, 8:57 AM
I've introduced a new gradient-based color coordination system for some of my posters, aimed at being more subtle and easy on the eyes with respect to the image's color palate. This was based on the observation that many of my less popular pieces have very brightly-colored frames and/or text. Though the old versions are no longer viewable for comparison, please let me know what you think of these new ones, as I plan on doing this for more of the pieces in my gallery which I feel could benefit. Thanks for viewing as always! :)

Plain Prints Now Available!!!

Tue Jan 15, 2008, 2:04 PM
I will now be offering plain prints for sale through my store in the 2:3 aspect ratio. This means you can order 4x6, 12x18, 16x24 and 20x30 inch prints WITH NO BORDERS. As I type this, Always Greener is available for purchase as a plain print. Expect Transatlanticism to become available soon, followed by others. If there's one you want that I haven't gotten around to uploading yet, send me a note and I'll get right on that.

Other sizes, such as 8x10, 11x14 and 16x20 inch will still only be available in the poster format as converting 2:3 images to 4:5 would warp them terribly. I hope this will turn more people on to buying my prints, as any profits I make will aid me in making a career of fine art photography and graphic design.

Also, I just got back from North Carolina. It was fun like always :)

Last but not least, I want to thank everyone who has ever featured my work in their journal or purchased a print from me. I appreciate it more than you will ever know.

Keep on keeping on,

JB
